June 12, 2012

The end of the year is here!! This will be my last blog of the year. I just want to say what a wonderful year it has been with your children. They are a bright, energetic and kind group of kids and I have truly enjoyed teaching them and watching them grow. Thanks for all of your support this year!

Tuesday June 19th-Last day of school! (full day)

ELA
We will complete our final read-aloud, Because of Winn Dixie, and reflect on the read alouds of the year. We will also write our final reading letter in school this week, so they do not need to do this at home. We finished spelling last week. In writing, we are finishing compliment cards and reflecting on the school year.


Math
We are finishing up a unit on stocks, which the class loved! They are ready to invest! We will finish up the year with a geometry activity.


Science/Social Studies
We will finish up rocks and minerals this week. We will finish up immigration by looking at photographs from the time period.

June 4, 2012

I can't believe that we are in June! The year has truly flown by. There is a lot of testing this week. Please make sure your child is on time each day this week so we can get started right away.

Testing:
Monday June 4th -NYS Science test (written portion)
Tuesday June 5th and Wednesday June 6th-Accelerated Math test
Thursday June 6th-NYS Field Testing (Reading)

This week:

Math
This week, we will be doing some group math activities. We will do some "Stock Market Math" and will be creating geometric villages. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will take the accelerated math test. This test, along with teacher recommendations, will help us determine the accelerated math class for next year.

ELA 
This week, we will finish The Kid in the Red Jacket for Read Aloud. Students should continue reading independently and should write reading letters. We will have our last spelling list this week. There will not be a June reading calendar. In Writing, students are making "compliment cards" for their classmates.


Science/Social Studies
In science, we will work on the Rocks and Minerals unit. In social studies, we will finish immigration.
