I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!! The weather was beautiful and I got to spend some quality time with family and friends. I hope you did too. Next week, we will be doing some more testing. Unfortunately, fourth grade is a year that is packed with testing! I will list the upcoming tests below. Please contact me if you have any questions/concerns!

Testing Schedule
Monday June 4th-NYS Science Test (written portion)
Tuesday June 5th and Wednesday June 6th-Accelerated Math Inventory
Thursday June 7th-NYS Field Testing

ELA
In reading this week, we are studying author's purpose and reading independently. There are no reading letters due this week. In Writing, we are working on an end of the year activity in which students write a complimentary paragraph about each of their classmates. There is no spelling this week.

Math
We finished Hands On Equations last week. This week, we will be covering/reviewing a few things as a transition to 5th grade math. We will also be doing some group math projects to end the year.


Science
We will start the Rocks and Minerals unit this week and we will finish reviewing for the NYS Science test.

Social Studies
We will be working on Immigration this week.

ELA
In reading this week, we will finish Granny Torelli Makes Soup. This was a great Read-Aloud that really focused on relationships. It led to great discussions! We will be studying author's purpose this week. There will be NO reading letters due this week. In writing, we are typing our poems and will have a poetry celebration on Thursday morning at 9:45. We will then spend some time focusing on an end of the year writing activity.


Math
This week, we will finish up the Hands On Equations unit. There will be a quiz on Thursday.

Social Studies
On  Tuesday, we will see a presentation on the Erie Canal. We will also be studying immigration this week.


Science
We are reviewing for the New York State Science Test.

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day weekend!! All of you moms deserve it:)Your children had such lovely things to say about all of you when they were writing their poems and creating wordles.

Reading/Writing
In reading, we started a new Read Aloud called Granny Torelli's Soup. Students should continue reading independently and writing reading letters. In writing, we are editing and publishing poems this week We will have a poetry celebration the week before Memorial Day. I will keep you posted on a day and time. I am tentatively planning for May 24th at 9:45 but I will confirm soon. We will start a memoir unit later this week.

Math
This week, we will start the Hands On Equations unit. It is a set of hands on lessons using algebra. It is a really fun unit!

Science
We will continue reviewing for the 4th Grade Science test.

Social Studies
We will start a unit on Immigration this week. Jeff Bennett will be here on Friday to share a presentation on immigration.

Thank you so much for the lovely flowers for Teacher Appreciation Week! There is a colorful variety of flowers and it really brightened up the room and my morning!

ELA
In reading and writing this week, we are continuing our poetry unit. We will finish up The Orphan of Ellis Island .Students should continue reading a book of their choice and writing reading letters. We will be writing a variety of poetry this week!

Math
We will finish up the probability unit this week. The test will be Thursday and we will review on Wednesday.

Social Studies
We are working on a budget/vote activity. We are learning about budgeting and voting by doing a variety of activities. Students can then take part in Kids Vote Too! On May 15th, the day of the school district budget vote, students can join their parents and vote for a new school snack!

Science
We will be reviewing for the New York State Science test over the next few weeks.
