Good morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Testing is done, for now! We will also have a New York State Science test at the end of May. Thanks to everyone who donated to the Used Book Sale!!

ELA
In reading and writing this week, we will be working on poetry. We will focus on learning figurative language and finding examples in poetry books. As the week continues, students will start writing their own poetry. Students should continue reading an independent reading book of their choice and writing reading letters this week. April reading calendars are due Tuesday, May 1st.

Math
This week, we will start a unit on Probability. Students worked very hard on last week's New York State Math test. Great job!!


Social Studies
We will finish a unit on the Erie Canal and the Industrial Revolution. We will then start a short unit on the voting process.

Science
We will start the Rocks and Minerals unit at the end of the week.

Good morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Used Book Sale
We are collecting used books for next week's sale. If possible, please send in a gently used K-5 level book by Friday.

This week, we will have the New York State Math test on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, eats a healthy breakfast and gets to school ON TIME. We need to begin promptly at 9:30 each day of testing.


Math
We will be reviewing for the NYS Math test on Monday and Tuesday. For homework this week, I would like students to be practicing their facts. They can use flash cards, play some of the online math games listed, or any other practice. I will be reminding them to take their time and check over their work very carefully so the they don't make careless mistakes.

ELA
In reading and writing this week, we will be starting a Poetry unit. We will also finish our current read-aloud, Fablehaven, and will start The Orphan of Ellis Island. Students should continue reading a book of their choice and there will be reading letters due this week. Students worked very hard on the ELA tests last week. Nice job!!!

Social Studies/Science
Historian, Jeff Bennett, was back on Friday for a presentation on the Industrial Revolution. We will continue learning about the Industrial Revolution and the Erie Canal this week. We will begin a Rocks and Minerals unit in science next week.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful week. It's hard to believe, but there are only 10 weeks of school left! We have a lot to do to finish up fourth grade. So...let's get started on the final stretch!


This week, we will have the New York State ELA test on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Please make sure  your child gets a good night's sleep, has a healthy breakfast and gets to school ON TIME. We need to get started right at 9:30. Next week, we will have New York State Math testing on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Math
This week, students will get back geometry tests. These should be signed and corrected by Friday. We will spend the week reviewing for the New York State Math test. Make sure your child is practicing their basic facts at home this week-times tables, division facts, addition/subtraction. Please have them try some of the websites that I have listed for practice.

Reading
This week, we are taking the ELA test. Students should continue reading a book of their choice. There will be no reading letters this week.

Writing
We are working on essay writing for the ELA test. After the testing, we will start a unit on poetry.

Social Studies
We are studying New York State government and the Erie Canal.

To start my blog this week, I want to share something about one of my students! Mike Guyette took part in St. Baldrick's fundraiser at Siena College. He raised money and had his shaved to help kids with cancer! We are all proud of him. Way to go, Mike!!

Math
This week, we will finish up geometry. We will review Tuesday and will have a test on Wednesday.

Reading
This week, we will continue the ELA study in preparation for the New York State tests on April 17th, 18th, and 19th. There will be no reading letters this week. March reading calendars are due April 1st.

Writing
We are working on essay writing as part of the ELA unit.

Social studies
We are working on a unit on New York State government.
