April 20th-April 24th

Spring has finally sprung! The kids loved getting outside in the sunshine this week! Our first week of testing is over and the kids handled it very well. Our Math testing will be next week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please make sure to schedule appointments accordingly and to have children to school on time, as we start promptly at 9:30. Have a wonderful week!

Soak up the sun!

This week...

**There will be no spelling again this week.

Reading and Writing
We will be starting a mystery unit this week! We will be studying the mystery genre and reading a variety of mysteries. I will also be reading a mystery called The Egypt Game for read aloud. In writing, we will be preparing for our next unit, persuasive writing. We are reading picture books and debating topics in these books as a class. We have read Odd Velvet and the kids debated whether she was odd or not odd and we read Amazing Grace and the class debated whether Grace should play Peter Pan or she shouldn't play Peter Pan. The kids have really enjoyed these lessons!

Math
We will be taking the NYS Math test on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so there will not be a new math unit this week and there will be no homework in math.

Science/Social Studies
In science, we started the electricity unit last week and the class really enjoyed it. The first experiment was to try to light a lightbulb with a battery and a copper wire. It took a little while, but many pairs figured it out! In social studies, we will start a unit on Brazil.

April 13th-April 17th

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the week off. It's hard to believe April is almost over already. We have a busy week! Looks like the weather is improving...maybe we'll be able to get outside a couple of these afternoons!

We celebrated Anthony's birthday the week before the break!
