January 3, 2012

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and spent time with family and friends.

Math
In Math this week, we will be working on using multiplication and division facts in algebra. Next week, we will begin a unit on fractions.

Reading
We started a new read aloud book called Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. It is a Newbery Award Winning adventure novel. Students should continue reading a book of their choice this month. They did an excellent job on book groups! We will start another book group in February. We will be looking at non-fiction this month. December reading calendars are due on Wednesday, January 4th. Reading letters are due this week-Tuesday letters are due on Wednesday.

Writing
We will be working on feature articles. Students have read a variety of different feature articles and will be choosing topics and researching this week. Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate the realistic fiction stories!

Social Studies/Science
We finished the Native American unit and the posters were excellent! We will be starting a Floating and Sinking unit in Science sometime in the next few weeks.

As always, feel free to contact me at mleach@bcsd.neric.org. Have a great week!
