February 26, 2012

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great February break!

Math
In Math, we will start the Measurement unit. We will start with length. We are also working on problem solving each day.

Reading
Last week, we finished a great read-aloud called Petey, about a man with cerebral palsy. We will start a new Read Aloud this week, George Washington's Socks. This is a historical fiction story with bit of fantasy thrown in! It will go along with our Revolutionary War unit in Social Studies. Students will be reading books of their choice this week and should complete reading letters this week. Friday is  Dr. Seuss's birthday, Read Across America Day! Students should bring in a favorite book to share on Friday.

Writing
Students did a great job writing non-fiction! The feature articles were fantastic. Thanks to everyone who joined us for the writing celebration! Our next writing unit is historical fiction. We will be creating characters from the Revolutionary War time period and creating journals.

Science/Health
We finished up Floating and Sinking. We will start a unit on the digestive system over the next couple of weeks.

Social Studies
Students learned about colonial New York and will start a unit on the Revolutionary War this week.
