April 23, 2012

Good morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Used Book Sale
We are collecting used books for next week's sale. If possible, please send in a gently used K-5 level book by Friday.

This week, we will have the New York State Math test on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, eats a healthy breakfast and gets to school ON TIME. We need to begin promptly at 9:30 each day of testing.

Math
We will be reviewing for the NYS Math test on Monday and Tuesday. For homework this week, I would like students to be practicing their facts. They can use flash cards, play some of the online math games listed, or any other practice. I will be reminding them to take their time and check over their work very carefully so the they don't make careless mistakes.

ELA
In reading and writing this week, we will be starting a Poetry unit. We will also finish our current read-aloud, Fablehaven, and will start The Orphan of Ellis Island. Students should continue reading a book of their choice and there will be reading letters due this week. Students worked very hard on the ELA tests last week. Nice job!!!

Social Studies/Science
Historian, Jeff Bennett, was back on Friday for a presentation on the Industrial Revolution. We will continue learning about the Industrial Revolution and the Erie Canal this week. We will begin a Rocks and Minerals unit in science next week.
