April 16, 2012

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful week. It's hard to believe, but there are only 10 weeks of school left! We have a lot to do to finish up fourth grade. So...let's get started on the final stretch!

This week, we will have the New York State ELA test on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Please make sure  your child gets a good night's sleep, has a healthy breakfast and gets to school ON TIME. We need to get started right at 9:30. Next week, we will have New York State Math testing on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Math
This week, students will get back geometry tests. These should be signed and corrected by Friday. We will spend the week reviewing for the New York State Math test. Make sure your child is practicing their basic facts at home this week-times tables, division facts, addition/subtraction. Please have them try some of the websites that I have listed for practice.

Reading
This week, we are taking the ELA test. Students should continue reading a book of their choice. There will be no reading letters this week.

Writing
We are working on essay writing for the ELA test. After the testing, we will start a unit on poetry.

Social Studies
We are studying New York State government and the Erie Canal.
