February 23rd-February 27th

I hope everyone enjoyed the chilly winter break! Our Valentine's Day pancake breakfast was a great success! The class really enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone who sent in supplies and to the parent volunteers, Mrs. Hershberg, Mrs. Gordinier and Mr. Rodriguez!

A few months ago, Ann Schwanda came and the third graders created quilt squares to be made into quilts. The quilts are donated to children in local hospitals and shelters. She brought the quilts to Slingerlands for the third grade classes to see. Our quilt came out great!

This week...

Reading
This week, we will continue the non-fiction unit and will continue practicing shared reading. We will also be reading a variety of different texts over the next few weeks and practicing skills needed for April's NYS ELA test.

Writing
We are publishing our informational books this week in writing. In a previous blog, I had mentioned a celebration on Friday, February 27th. This celebration will be moved to Friday, March 6th at 1:15. Please join us if you can!

Math
We will be finishing up a unit on time this week and will have a test Wednesday. We will begin fractions on Thursday.

Science/Social Studies
Last week, we went into Starlab and learned about the reasons for the seasons. In social studies, we will be learning about United States symbols this week.
