March 2nd-March 6th

We had a great week in third grade! We were busy and as always, the class was very excited about learning. We had to say goodbye to our friend Alyssa. She is moving and will be going to a new school! The girls planned a special surprise lunch for her and the whole class made her a collage of pictures to take to her new house. Good luck to Alyssa and her family!

Upcoming Events...

On Friday March 6th, we will celebrate the informational writing unit. Please join us at 1:15 to read the fabulous informational books the class has written!

Come to the Wacky Olympics on Friday night, March 6th! See Mrs. Leach, Mrs. Platek, Mrs. Sieme, Mrs. MacMillan, Mrs. Messier and Mrs. Palagyi compete in wacky games against the other schools! Doors open at 5:30 and games start at 6. Food and face painting will be available! Wear your spirit wear!

This week...

Reading
We are continuing to work on non-fiction. We will be continuing to practice shared reading this week and students will be introduced to a variety of different texts this way. We are also continuing to read our just right books independently. Students are sustaining about 30 minutes of silent reading at this point, which is excellent! We are meeting with small groups for guided reading.

Writing
We will finish publishing our informational books this week. Students are working on adding text features. The books are coming out great!

Math
We finished up the time unit and started fractions on Friday. We are starting with a basic understanding of fractions as parts of a whole. Please continue to practice facts each night!

Science/Social Studies
We will be continuing the United States unit. We are learning about United States symbols. Last week, we learned about the flag and seal of the United States and this week, we will cover the liberty bell, the Statue of Liberty and the bald eagle. In science, we will be starting the electricity unit.
